Preferred Title was founded in 1952 when Perry Armstrong, Sr., then an
attorney with Murphy, Armstrong, and Gavin, saw the need to create a
comprehensive title insurance company and left his law practice.
Preferred Title was originally in the Tenney Building on the Capitol
Square where it remained until it moved to the Anchor Building at 25 West Main Street.
When Perry J. Armstrong, Sr. passed away in 1973, Perry Armstrong, Jr.
took over running the operation.
In 1988, Preferred Title was sold to TICOR Title Insurance Company and
relocated to the West Beltline in 1989. TICOR Title, whose heritage dates back to 1893, is one of the oldest and largest title insurance
underwriters in the United States.
In 1991, the business was purchased by the Stark Company, Century
21-Affiliated, first Realty Group, and Perry Armstrong. In 1994, Weber
Realty was admitted as a new partner. Currently, Preferred Title is located off the West Beltline at 2728 Coho Street.
